ITT Wins $18 Million Navy Radar System Upgrade
Award
White Plains, NY.
January 30, 2008 —
ITT
Corporation today announced that the company
has received an $18 million contract from Naval
Sea (NAVSEA) Systems Command as part of the
AN/SPS-48 Radar Obsolescence, Availability
Recovery (ROAR) program. This award allows ITT
to move from the initial non-recurring
development phase into low rate initial
production.
ITT received $14.2 million following a
successful critical resign review in October.
To date, ITT has been awarded $57 million by NAVSEA for the ROAR program, which is intended
to keep the AN/SPS-48 systems in service until
at least 2045.
ITT will deliver the first three of 36 AN/SPS-48
ROAR production systems. The first in late 2010,
the second during the first quarter of 2011, and
the third in the second quarter of 2011. As
with earlier phases of the program, the majority
of the work will be performed at ITT Radar
Systems–Gilfillan in Van Nuys, Calif.
"This latest NAVSEA award demonstrates ITT’s
unwavering commitment and performance on this
program," said Chris Bernhardt, President of ITT
Electronic Systems. "We look forward to
delivery, installation and deployment of the
first three systems, and continuing this
long-term capability improvement for the Navy
customer."
ITT's AN/SPS-48 radars were first introduced
into the fleet in the mid-1980s as part of the
New Threat Upgrade program on aircraft carriers,
cruisers and destroyers. ROAR will lessen total
cost of ownership by reducing the impact of
obsolescence in major subassemblies, and
increase fleet readiness by improving
operational availability.
